Big Blue, Big Blue

WOW

I didn’t think they could do it. When Big Blue went 3 and out with 8 minutes left in the 4th, all I could think was too much time. Too much time left for Tom Brady.

As it turned out, it was just enough time for Tom Brady and Eli Manning. The Patriots got their 7 up on the board, but left enough time for Big Blue to respond with 7 of their own. Leaving 29 long seconds up on the board for Tom Brady to work some magic.

Not to be. The Big Blue D stood tall and the New York Giants are the new World Champions.

NARC FC AFC Good Idea’s Whoa Nellie

Congratulations to Good Idea’s Whoa Nelly, the 2007 National Amateur Retriever Champion. Good Idea’s Whoa Nelly is handled by Ken Neil and owned by Ken Neil and Brenda Little.

In addition, congratulations to the Freeridin Retrievers. Buffy, Mootsie, and Zowie all went deep into the championship. Mootsie made it to the 6th series, Zowie made it to the 3th, and Buffy was a finalist.

Missed it by that much

The Av’s fall 4-2 to the Predators and will miss the playoffs for the first year since 1994. They went 14-2-2 over the last 18 games, earning 30 of a possible 36 points. But they started their run just a few games too late.

Oh well, wait until next year.

Go Oilers

It’s that time of year.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The Av’s have gone 14-1-2 since 27 February and stand at the brink of the playoffs. But the Av’s do not control their own destiny. They are 3 points back of the Flames with 2 games to play and they need an Oilers win over the Flames to have any chance. That makes me a huge Oilers fan for the next 10 hours or so.

On the Bubble

It’s a big game for the Stanford Cardinal tonight. At 18-11, RPI: 57, SOS: 29, we need a win against the USC Trojans to secure a NCAA tournament bid. It looks like the game is on Fox Sports New York tonight – I may need to stay up and see how we do.

USC wins 83-79 in OT. And Stanford remains on the bubble.

So Long Jake

Conventional Wisdom says that Jake Plummer’s great failing was not being John Elway. I’m sure that there is a lot of truth to that. But Jake didn’t make his life any easier with 3 playoff blowouts:

2003: Colts 41 – Broncos 10
2004: Colts 49 – Broncos 24
2005: Steelers 34 – Broncos 17

The writing was on the wall after the Mastermind gave the reins to rookie Jay Cutler for the last five games of last season. So long Jake and good luck with your next team.

The Good Jake

The good Jake was 15 of 30 for 256 yards in yesterday’s 17-7 victory over the New England Patriots. He had two touchdown passes to Javon Walker and most importantly no turnovers. This was a good win for the Broncos – the Patriots aren’t the same team that won 3 Super Bowls in a 4 year span, but they’re still in the NFL’s upper echelon.

In spite of their poor showing against the Rams and the Chiefs to start the season, the Broncos find themselves at 2-1. The defense finally gave up its first TD of the season with just over nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. The offense is starting to jell. And Shanahan has the bye week to make it all stick.

I’ll take it.
