It's Over

When is this going to stop? It’s hard to hear when you’re a person who’s passionate about performing and watching and believing in the results of cycling.

I was watching Stage 10 of the Tour de France, Pau to Hautacam, when I came to the realization that I didn’t really care. And now Riccardo Ricco is busted for doping, 9th overall with 2 stage wins.

I’m sorry, but it’s over.

Thank You ESPN

A belated thank you to ESPN for making it possible for me to watch Euro 2008 in HD.

Of course, as I was watching the US women playing Brazil this afternoon, I also have ESPN to thank for spoiling my ability to enjoy less highly skilled soccer.

Dutch +1

If the Netherlands is going to play like this, then they should get an automatic entry into any tournament they like. Two of the greatest counterattacks that I have ever seen – both started with the Dutch fending the ball off the face of the goal and both ended with the ball in the opposing net brief moments later.

Up 2-nil in the 75th minute, most teams would be playing the clock. The Dutch? They’re still probing for a 3rd goal.

Road to Super Bowl XLII

New York Giants – The Road to Super Bowl XLII This DVD Collection includes all the action from the TV broadcasts of:

  1. Week 17: Patriots vs Giants
  2. Wild Card Playoffs: Giants vs Buccaneers
  3. Divisional Playoffs: Giants vs Cowboys
  4. NFC Championship: Giants vs Packers
  5. Super Bowl XLII: Giants vs Patriots.

If you’re a NY Giants fan, if you’re an NFL fan, even if you’re a New England Patriots fan, then you need to buy this collection. I’ve watched the 4th, 1st and 2nd quarters of Super Bowl XLII; and you get all the meat and none of the fat.

Why Patriots fans? You may never watch it. But if this collection is a success, then the NFL may release other complete games as well. And those you will definitely want to savor.

March Drabness

That was a disappointment. I was expecting great things from the 4-13, 5-12 match-ups in the East and South regions. But it didn’t work out that way. All the favorites won handily on Thursday. And the “close” game on Saturday was the 65-54 “upset” of MSU over Pitt. A game that wasn’t as close as the score.

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament is one of the great events in sports. And if Denver 2008 was a bit of a disappointment, then it’s only because I was fortunate enough to attend Denver 2004 and Oakland 1990.

March Madness

The bracket is set. And I’ll be watching at the Pepsi Center in Denver thanks to my brother. Looks like I’ve got some pretty good games ahead of me:

#5 Notre Dame vs. #12 George Mason
#4 Washington State vs #13 Winthrop

#5 Michigan State vs #12 Temple
#4 Pitt vs. #13 Oral Roberts

Drop me a line if you’ll be at the Pepsi Center.

Big Blue, Big Blue

WOW

I didn’t think they could do it. When Big Blue went 3 and out with 8 minutes left in the 4th, all I could think was too much time. Too much time left for Tom Brady.

As it turned out, it was just enough time for Tom Brady and Eli Manning. The Patriots got their 7 up on the board, but left enough time for Big Blue to respond with 7 of their own. Leaving 29 long seconds up on the board for Tom Brady to work some magic.

Not to be. The Big Blue D stood tall and the New York Giants are the new World Champions.
