What I like about a Richard Curtis romantic comedy is he gives us multiple romances to follow. And most, if not all, of the romances are interesting. The lead romance in About Time is between Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mary (Rachel McAdams). But that’s not the relationship that I’m envious of.

Because About Time is a story about families and the love between a man and his wife, his children, his sibling and his father. And while Rachel McAdams is Rachel McAdams, the relationship that I envy is the relationship with Dad (Bill Nighy).

Tim: You must see I feel a bit cheated. Dad: Don’t. In fact, feel the opposite. The only people who give up work at 50 are the time travelers with cancer who want to play more table tennis with their sons. Tim: Right. So that’s been the deal?
